African American Head Wraps Style

African American Head Wraps

African head wrap is very easy to wear and it’s very much helpful at times when we need to protect our hair from dust, this head wrap is also known as gelee. At first, simply one have to toss all her hairs back and then to gather all the hair inside the scarf, and slowly twist the scarf; be careful don’t twist the hair, slowly it gets tightened and will look like tight bun or ponytail.

Now slowly start twisting the bottom of the scarf and bring the twist end to the back of the head to form an enclosed pony tail, but don’t do this too tightly as it can cause damage to the hair. This is one of the easiest head wrap that women often use to protect as well as to dry their hair after having bath.

This Dolce and Gabbana ad was definitely eye-catching to say the least. There’s just something about the look of a headscarf and sunglasses that is so iconic. The bonnet would be the perfect base for a headscarf fashion, imagine a head scarf draped around it probably pinned at the back to stop it falling down!

Head scarf timeline

It’s not the first time Dolce and Gabbana have used head coverings in their campaigns. For their Autumn/Winter collection last year Dolce and Gabbana revived that vintage look with printed scarves tied under the chin.

Summer Style

Headscarf styles aren’t that uncommon in winter but it’s nice to see the trend translate into a lighter look.

So now back to spring/summer for a surprisingly headscarf friendly collection. I just love those stripes!

Head Scarves Trend

Head Scarves Fashion

After being featured in the recent Prada resort collection and being spotted around the streets of the ever fashionable Milan and New York, the questionable head scarf is now back in fashion, and is also currently regarded as one of fashions hottest accessory trends for the coming seasons, with the likes of fashion blogger and model Hanneli Mustaparta following suit.

What was once considered as old fashioned is now an incredibly chic way of updating old wardrobe classics such as the little black dress without breaking your budget! There are also countless ways to wear the look, whether you decide to sport the look on your head or on your hips as a belt – the look can work for just about anyone as long as you can find the print to suit you!

Can’t find it in shops? Why not head down to your local market and haggle your way into buying that perfect print? Or simply re-invent an old piece of clothing by giving it a new lease of life as a head scarf! The look doesn’t have to be difficult, but it can definitely be high fashion.

Want to splurge on one of the most talked about pieces this season? Try investing in an original Hermes scarf!

Head Scarf Tying Techniques

Woman with headscarf always look so beautiful and I have always wanted to know how to tie one so that I can wear it and look fashionable. Most hairstyles work best with a silk, or other very thin material, square scarf that is between 24″ and 36″ on each side. Here are my favorite head scarf tying techniques:

Low Bun Wrap - adds glamour to a simple hairstyle. Start with hair pulled back into a low ponytail. Fold square diagonally into a triangle. Place center of long edge of triangle at hairline. Bring edges of triangle around to back tightly and tie under ponytail. Twist ponytail and tied ends of scarf together and wrap around into a tight bun. Tuck edges of hair and scarf under bun.

Headband – simple and adds color to a down or updo. Fold square diagonally into a triangle. Roll scarf from long edge of triangle end towards the tip of the triangle so it becomes a long thick rectangular band. Flip hair upside and place center of band at forehead. Tie a square knot under hair at the top of the neck. Flip hair back and flatten around band. Pull long edges of scarf from back of neck to hang in front. You can vary the thickness of the band for different looks.

Hollywood – glamorous paired with sunglasses. Fold square diagonally into a triangle. Place center of long edge of triangle just above hairline. Cross the ends of the scarf under chin. Bring ends around to back of neck loosely and tie together.

How to Wear Scarf Head Wrap

How to Wear Scarf Head Wrap
How to Wear Scarf Head Wrap

Want to look different? Wrap your head with a head wrap! Throughout the ages both men and women of different cultures have worn head wraps to protect their heads from different weather conditions and simultaneously to express their personal and cultural style.

It is also helpful to protect hair from dust, heat and cold. Today women and girls wear them to create an easy fashionable look.

Altogether there are many advantages of head wraps, but to wear and tie a head wrap is a bit difficult; some of the important tips to wear and a tie a headwear are follows.

Head scarf should be folded vertically and must be placed properly on the back of the head so that the scarf hangs down and get balance in a parallel way; then we have to hold one side of the scarf and to move upward across the top of forehead and to pull the other side across the another end.

Now we have to wrap one end of the scarf to the back of head so that it tightly sticks to the other side, again we have to do the same with the opposite end of head wrap. The final is to fold both the ends over the forehead and to twist it around according to individual style; boby pins should be used to tighten the last fold.
